The Weekend feast .. Beef Nihari Delhi style 🥘😋 As hard as it may sound, Nihari is one of the least time consuming and attention requiring gormet dish and sums up to complete meal in itself !
- 1 kg beef (bone-in pieces) |
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced |
- 4 tablespoons ghee or oil |
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste |
- 2 tablespoons Nihari masala (store-bought or homemade) |
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder |
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder |
- Salt to taste |
- 6 cups water |
- 3-4 tablespoons wheat flour or all-purpose flour (for thickening) |
- Fresh coriander leaves, ginger julienne, green chilies, and lemon wedges for garnish |
Instructions:- |
1. Heat ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add sliced onions and fry until they turn golden brown. Remove the fried onions and set them aside for later use as a garnish. |
2. In the same pot, add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears. |
3. Add beef pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides. |
4. Stir in Nihari masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for a couple of minutes. |
5. Pour in water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 2-3 hours or until the meat is tender. |
6. In a small bowl, mix wheat flour or all-purpose flour with some water to make a smooth paste. Gradually add this paste to the simmering curry to thicken it. Cook for an additional 15-20 minutes. |
7. Adjust seasoning if needed. |
8. Serve hot, garnished with the fried onions, fresh coriander leaves, ginger julienne, green chilies, and lemon wedges. |
9. Nihari is traditionally served with naan or steamed rice. |
